Holding My Hand over My Other Ear
a Sonbeam from warren and mary beth powell
Morning just isn't the same up here on the 20th floor balcony of our
hotel in San Antonio. We see a lot more than from our porch back in
Henderson. The early sounds of a city begin coming to life, floating
upwards from down around the Riverwalk.
As I sit with my eyes closed, the sounds seem to separate themselves
and I play a game with myself, trying to figure out what sound goes
with what is happening. Here I am, 20 stories in the air….. surely I
couldn't hear that familiar beep, beep, beep. But it is what I had
guessed……a trash truck backing down the street a little. It
surprises me that amid all the sounds, that one tiny horn could
still be heard.
Why couldn't God have installed a horn like that inside of me to
warn me when I get off track from His path or when I find myself
backing up….repeating some past sin again……even though I know
better. My life would be so much easier if He had a sort of beeper
inside of me warning, 'no, stop, watch where you're going!'
If I could actually hear His voice in my ear, like the sound of that
truck horn, well, I could try holding my hand over my other ear so
that what He said wouldn't leak out of my head. However, God doesn't
work that way. He speaks to my heart, just like He does to yours, in
love.
And if God is 20 floors away when He speaks to me…….well, I am sure
I will hear Him……that is, if I am listening.
Into His Word
"Good friend, take to heart what I'm telling you; collect my
counsels and guard them with your life. Tune your ears to the world
of Wisdom; set your heart on a life of Understanding...... and
here's why: GOD gives out Wisdom free, is plainspoken in Knowledge
and Understanding." Proverbs 2:1, 6 The Message
"He who has ears to hear, let him hear!" Matthew 13:9 New King James
Version
"Dear friend, listen well to my words; tune your ears to my voice.
Keep my message in plain view at all times. Concentrate! Learn it by
heart! Those who discover these words live, really live; body and
soul, they're bursting with health." Proverbs 4:20-22 The Message
